Hoopes Family Pictures... aka CRAZINESS!

As much as I LOVE pictures, I always dread getting them taken because kids are so unpredictable! My friend Tish did a great job of being a spontaneous photographer. And I have to note that my kids were decent, not perfect, but good enough. These were my favorites, but it was hard to select just a few!

Hudson's Halloween 1st Birthday Party: The Cake!

Like most one-year-old's when plopped in front of a cake, Hudson didn't know what to think or do at first. At first he just looked at it. Then he couldn't resist to stick his finger in it. After he would stick his finger in it, he would wipe the frosting off on his tray!
It didn't take him long to realize that this was some good stuff, though! He looks like he's pretty much in heaven right now!

It got to the point where digging in with his hands wasn't enough! He tried to pick up the whole cake!
Enjoying the gooey, sugary, stickiness. Hudson, I hope you enjoyed it, because I am not letting you get so messy every night!

Hudson's Halloween 1st Birthday Party: Opening Presents

Hudson didn't know what to think about opening presents. His big brother was very helpful in showing him how it's done, though!
Hudson opening Grandma and Grandpa Perry's gift sent from afar. Hudson was so sad he couldn't have them come to his party.
The very last gift was from Mommy and Daddy. By then, he knew what he had to do...
I love his stone face he had the whole time! It was a long busy day, and there was a lot for a one year old to take in!
That night, we also played ring-the-pumpkin, and we had a game for the adults. I filled a Halloween jar with m&m's and the person with the closest guess won the jar. We had some good guesses and Mike Winz was the closest. He was only off by a few! Good Job!

Hudson's Halloween 1st Birthday Party: The Birthday Boy!

"It's my Party and I'll cry if I want to!"

This is a good picture of Hudson's teeth. He's got 6. If only his eyes would have been open...
Havin' fun at his party:)
Getting ready to eat some cake!

Hudson's Halloween 1st Birthday Party: The Food

A proper Halloween can't begin without eating Halloween Captain Crunch. It starts the children on a sugar-high early in the morning. And the best part is the ghosts turn your milk green!
This is Hudson's personal cake:
This is the yummiest chocolate cake I have ever had! The adults enjoyed this.
These are the spider cupcakes I made for all the kids. They LOVED them!
Since this was a family party, we had taco soup for dinner. I made Halloween-shaped sandwiches for the kids. And I made "Swamp Juice". I meant to get a picture of it, but it was a concoction of kool-aid, oj, ginger-ale, and orange sherbet that looked disgusting, but was surprisingly good!

Hudson's Halloween 1st Birthday Party: The Decorations

I had a ton of fun decorating for Hudson's Halloween party. I love decorating in general, but it was so fun to deck everything out for a Halloween party!
One of the games we played was called The Spider Web. I set it all up the night before. The kids had to follow their string through the "spider web" and at the end was a prize. It was fun to set up, but by the end it was really hard because I had to maneuver through all of these strings!

Our Little (or BIG) Pumpkin:)

I can't believe my baby is one! He had his well child check up today and he is a big boy! He weighs 21 1/2 lbs., which is in the 50th percentile. He is 31 in. tall, which is in the 95th percentile! I think we are going to have a basketball player on our hands! I'm waiting for the day when Hudson passes up Porter! I know it's going to happen, unless Porter has a huge growth spurt.

Hudson has been such a good baby! He has his moments, of course, but all-in-all he is happy natured, a little more snuggly than Porter, and an easy-going-go-with-the-flow baby. We are so glad he is in our family! He is very, very active, just like Porter, so he keeps me on my toes. Hudson and Porter LOVE playing together, and it is fun to see how they interact with each other as they are growing and getting older. It is so fun to have two boys close in age! We love you, Hudson, our little Halloween baby!

Trick-or-Treat!

After the Trunk-or-Treat, we went trick-or-treating in some neighborhoods.
Getting ready to go. Poor Hudson looks soooo tired. Both Porter and Hudson had such a busy weekend, but they didn't want to miss out on anything, either!
Porter got the hang of trick-or-treating really quick! He did not hesitate to go right up to the door and knock!
Porter was HILARIOUS, because the whole time we were trick-or-treating, he would go up to random trick-or-treaters and ROAR like a lion does! It was so so so funny and everyone thought he was so stinkin' cute!
He was on a mission and no one was going to stop him!
The Lion and BYU Cheerleader. Maisey and Porter were just adorable in their costumes!

CARNIVAL

We have had a CRAZY weekend. Having a child with a birthday on a Holiday is craziness! I will post about Hudson's b-day party later. My friend was sooooo wonderful and took pictures for me, but I haven't been able to get them off the cd. On Halloween night, we went to our ward Carnival and Trunk-or-Treat. It was an awesome carnival with TONS of fun games! I'm impressed a ward could pull of a party like this!

Here's the Safari Guides looking for WILD animals. See any?
Porter doin' some fishin'. He would try to hook the bags for a long time and then would finally hook the bag with his hands. Then he would get all excited and yell "Yay!!!"

Trying his skills at put-put. I think he's got his momma's skills... or lack of!
We hooked a cute one! Actually, there were gummy bears on the end, and Hudson LOVED that they were right at his height:) Sooooooo adorable!

Spooky Fantasy Trail

We loved going to this fun, lighted Halloween trail last year, so we decided to go again this year. Last year, Porter was too young to be scared of anything, but this year was another story! As you can see by the pictures, he started off pretty scared of everything, but warmed up to things, and by the end, he was having a ton of fun on the walk. He even asked to do it again, so we went around twice!

The whole family, plus a stow-a-away!
Throughout the trail, there are different little houses decorated with different Halloween themes. They are so cute! This was still at the beginning and Porter was still worried about scary things. He kept on saying "I too scared!" when I would ask him to get close to something to take a picture.
A ghost just Porter's size!
*As a side note, I have to tell a funny story about Porter and ghosts. During FHE, we have been working on teaching Porter the 1st Article of Faith. Porter really noticed the part about the Holy Ghost and started talking a lot about the Holy Ghost. The only problem is that he thinks the Holy Ghost is like a Halloween ghost! He's told me that he wants to see the Holy Ghost, that the Holy Ghost is scary, and when he see's a ghost, he says "Look mom, it's the Holy Ghost!" This kid will even hear when someone at church talks about the Holy Ghost and get all excited! Brandon and I are trying to help him distinguish the difference between a regular ghost and the Holy Ghost, but how do you help a two year old understand this? I think he's beginning to understand that the Holy Ghost is part of our church, because I was showing him an LDS church that wasn't our church, and I explained that we belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He then started talking about the Holy Ghost. I think he'll get it in a few years!

Hudson's so funny just chillin' in the backpack! He was just so content the whole time looking at all of the lights:)
Near the end of the trail are some slides that the boys liked playing on.
During the Christmas season, they have the Fantasy Trail decorated for Christmas. I wanted to go last year, but between taking care of a newborn, packing, and moving into a new house, we just didn't have the time to go. We'll definitely try for this year! This is a fun family-friendly activity to do:)

Happy Haunted Housing!

We went on the funnest group date this weekend. Our friends Jason and Dana put together a trip to Fright Town in Down Town Portland. 10 couples were able to go. We started off the night at Juan Colorados for some yummy Mexican Food.
I haven't been to a Haunted House in a long time, so I definitely was scared! This one was three different Haunted Houses! I am a chicken when it comes to scary stuff, but it is always fun at the same time!
Okay Brandon and Dana. You guys have a sick sense of humor! haha!
Ummmm... I think we're in trouble now, because we haven't had our swine flu shots yet! Stay away from the Hoopes'!
We all survived! No one got eaten, or tortured, or ripped to shreds! To top the night off, we all went and got dessert:) Thanks Jason and Dana for putting this all together. We can't wait for next year!

Pumpkin Carvin'

For family night this week we carved our pumpkins. Porter and Hudson loved it! Porter liked to help scoop out the insides and Hudson liked to play with the insides!

Porter requested a "scary pumpkin", so this is what Brandon came up with!

the finished product:

I have been busy making Porter's Halloween costume and it is finally done! This is the finished product:

I made the monkey suit for Porter's first Halloween and now Hudson gets to wear it! And lucky me, I only had to make one costume this year! I can handle one, but we'll see when I have to make more than one!
Porter practicing his lion ROAR! (btw- he posed himself for this picture! Maybe he's getting past his phase of not wanting his picture taken. I hope so!)

I know I'm partial, but isn't that the cutest lion and monkey you have ever seen?! It sure is a jungle at our house!

{Costume Party}

So, the day of our Elder's Quorum Costume Party, Brandon decided to get sick. He went out Friday night with a bunch of his friends from Portland, and come to find out, they are all getting sick! I guess they passed germs. WHAT WERE THEY DOING, I WONDER?! Anyways, I had to go to the party by myself:( I was bummed because our costume was meant for a couple. It was pretty lame to go by myself, but oh well! We were SUPPOSED to be the Black Eyed Peas. I was just one lonely Black Eyed Pea. I made the best out of it and had fun, though!
Love the mullet and chaps!
I didn't know that Shaun and Emily were BYU refs! Can't wait to see their whole family. Maisey will be the cutest BYU cheerleader and Gage will be the studliest BYU football player!
Here's the whole group minus Tish who took the picture. Brandon wasn't the only person who missed out because of sickness. We had a small group show up. There are a lot of yucky germs going around and a lot of people who couldn't come:(

Pumpkin Party!

The Grimmett's had an awesome garden this year and ended up with like 30 pumpkins! Maisey was so nice to share them with her friends! She invited everyone over for the first Grimmett Pumpkin Party! Porter painted one for himself and one for Hudson.
He was really concentrating hard on his task!
They also decorated pumpkin cookies.
Played games like pin the nose on the pumpkin and a pumpkin walk.
The whole gang- minus quite a few kiddos that were sick:(
Thanks Emily for planning a fun pumpkin party! Porter had so much fun!

Playgroup

I am so lucky to have a great group of friends here. We get together 2-3 times a week. We go to story time at the library and when the weather is nice, we go to a park and picnic. Now that it is going to start raining more, we are going to have to be more creative about where to meet for playgroup. We met at my house last week because I have a huge playroom. Porter was so excited that all of his friends were coming to play at his house! He sat at the front window and waited for them to arrive! How cute! He is really into friends right now and is always asking me if he can go to friends' houses!
The playroom was well used, to say the least! We had 9 moms and dads (including Brandon because he was working from home that day) and 15 kids! I also had play dough in the kitchen to play with. I think all the kids had fun!
We made lunch and then had Halloween cookies for a treat.
My house is open for playgroup any day during the crummy weather:)

I totally believe in bribery!

Porter is a big boy! We have been potty training him since August. It has been a slow process (slower than I thought it would be). He just doesn't like to stop what he's doing to go potty. Anyways, we've done the sticker charts and treats, and those don't seem to excite Porter anymore, so, we told him if he doesn't have an accident for a whole day, we will take him to...
Where the Wild Things Are! He loves this book and is excited to see the movie. Hopefully he can do it before this movie leaves the theaters!

And hopefully one accident-free day becomes two accident-free days, then one accident-free week, then month... I've had two in diapers for almost a year which is long enough!

Shopping & Fun!

While Brandon was at Priesthood session of conference, me and the boys and Grandma Hoopes had some fun. We went shopping and got Porter some clothes and shoes (thanks Grandma!) He is growing so fast it seems like I just barely bought him some shoes & they are too little! After shopping we played at the play place in the mall. Porter & Hudson had a blast! This was the only picture I could get of the two of them together. They had so much fun they would run from one thing to the next, that I could barely get any pictures! (at least ones where they were looking!)

Pumpkin Cookies aka Yummy, Yummy, Yummy!

I thought I'd post the yummiest and easiest cookie recipe. I get so excited to make these cookies every year. They are one of my fav! Brandon doesn't even like pumpkin and he LOVES these cookies! That's how good they are! Porter doesn't usually eat cookies, either, but he will eat these up! Needless to say, between the three of us, they don't last very long! Here's the recipe: (hope you can handle it. it's a pretty challenging one! haha!)

1 spice cake mix
1 can small pumpkin
1 egg
1 cup chocolate chips (I like semi-sweet but use whatever kind you want)
Mix together and drop onto cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10-12 min.
Enjoy:)

Oktoberfest

I am behind on getting these pictures up! We went to Oktoberfest a couple weekends ago with the Grimmett's. It was a lot of fun until the kids got tired and it started to rain. We like to go every year and eat good food and just have fun! We spent most of our time in the children's area where Porter and Maisey had a ton of fun!
Hudson even had a great time! They all loved this bounce house! Look at those two cuties!
Look at my two teeth!
1,2,3, Jump! (Porter in his element)
Porter and Maisey even got to ride a pony! He loved that and didn't want to get off!
Already can't wait for Oktoberfest next year!

Autumn Garden

Our garden is still going strong, even though we haven't been out there as much to take care of it. It was such a nice evening tonight that Brandon and I decided to get it ready for Fall. We had a bunch of over-grown plants and a bunch of dead leaves that needed to be trimmed. While Brandon was cutting dead vines from our pumpkin patch, he accidentally cut one that had a pumpkin on it! Porter was very excited, but I just hope this pumpkin lasts through Halloween. We have one more still on the vine with Hudson's name on it!
Porter wanted me to take a picture of this big carrot. He was so proud of it!
Meanwhile...

Hudson was having fun on his own. "Hmmmm... what tomato should I eat now?"
He got one of the big tomatoes that I had picked and placed on the side of the garden. Evidently he likes tomatoes because...
he ate the whole thing!!!!! What a nut! (and don't ask me how he did it with only two full teeth)
It was fun to hang out as a family working (and eating) in our garden!

Pear Perfection

My friend Stephanie was soooooo nice to tell me where to get good, cheap pears and then show me how to can them. I went over to her house and with her help I canned 27 Quarts! She didn't get anything else done, except help me. Friends are awesome! Now I know how to can pears, and she said that peaches are the same process, so hopefully next year I will do both. My family has LOVED the pears and we have only had them a few days! That's all Porter and Hudson wanted to eat for lunch yesterday, and last night, Brandon said he wanted pears for dessert! Glad I canned so many! I doubt they'll last a year...

*Oregon State Fair*

We like to go to the fair every year. I think it's a tradition we will continue because there is fun for everyone. I love this time of year and the fair reminds me of the start of Fall. I love Fall!
Now that is one BIG horse! We spend most of our time looking at all of the animals. We even watched some cows being milked, which was interesting for Porter. I'm trying to teach him that the milk we drink comes from cows, and I was glad I could show him instead of tell him. I don't know if he quite understands yet, but he will!
Porter and Hudson lookin' at the bunnies. Why are kids so fascinated with animals? I guess that's why we got them a puppy. They LOVE animals!
Our friend, Hannah, mutton bustin'! Yeeeee Haaaaaaw!
They have a fun children's section with a lot of hands-on activities. Porter loved these little tractors. Aren't they cute? I had to push the tractor, though, because Porter couldn't reach the pedals well enough to pedal the tractor himself! Sorry you're such a little squirt, Porter!

Gymnastics

Porter had his first gymnastics class on Saturday. He had sooooo much fun! We wanted him to take gymnastics since he's such a wiggle worm. Well, Brandon wants him to take gymnastics because he swears it will help him when he plays sports. But I think it's just going to be a lot of fun, and hopefully wear him out a bit! The whole class is so cute and so funny to watch! He has two friends in his class, Maisey and Aaron.
The bear crawl- if you couldn't tell what they were doing.
It was soooo funny because for this jumping exercise and the balance beam, Porter's teacher would hold the kids' hands to help them, but as soon as she would hold out her hand to help Porter, he would wave his hand frantically, like "don't you dare help me. I want to do it by my self!"
I just can't believe how dang cute he is!
And he is fast, fast, fast!

I'm walking!

I have been waiting for 10 months to be able to walk! Since I was born, I've been jealous of my big brother, Porter, being able to walk and get around so fast. I decided that since I was 10 months old, it was time for me to join him on his big boy adventures! I am loving this new-found freedom. It keeps mom on her toes, especially since I also decided to cut my 4 top teeth all at the same time! Maybe I'm a little bit cranky because of that, but my mom is the best mom in the whole wide world and she understands what I am going through.
My next step is to learn how to climb, jump, run and do any dare-devil stunt that Porter does. He is a great big brother and I really look up to him, even when he doesn't share his toys. I love learning new things and the past month I have worked really hard to learn to wave "bye-bye" and even say "uh-oh" when something falls. I'm so proud of myself! I think my mom is a little sad to see me growing up so fast, though. She took this video of me so she can always remember when I was just learning how to walk. Watch and then make a comment about how cute I am, because I know I am!

LAGOON!

Whenever we visit Utah in the summer, we always go to Lagoon. Porter loves it and Hudson even had fun, even though he couldn't go on most of the rides. This is how Porter's face looked the entire day: It was a perma-grin!
I was surprised with some of the rides he wanted to go on. This one Grandma was even scared to go on!

More cheesy grinning...

Hudson loved the Carousel!

What a fun day! Grandma and Grandpa sure do spoil us when we visit! We love them and miss them so much!

Auntie Ruthie's House

We were able to spend some time at Aunt Ruth's house. She has a fun backyard. Porter and the cousins hangin' out in the hot tub.
Grandma and Hudson hangin' out in the pool.
Happy to be playing outside!
More cousins!

More Family Time

My mom's family reunion was in Burlington, Wy. She has two sisters that live there, and that's where she grew up. We celebrated the 24th of July with the town. There was a parade (our family had a float). The two wards put on a very nice pioneer program. We had a picnic lunch. Then the games began...

They had games planned for ALL ages. It was so funny to see the little kids playing their games. Basically it was a bunch of kids running around hitting each other with water noodles! Hats off to the guy that was trying to play organized games with them. He really was trying, but gave up when he realized all they were interested in doing was running around hitting each other! Haha!
Hudson LOVES swinging. This time he could share the swing with his big brother!
What a day! And it was only noon! Hudson found a comfortable spot on Grandpa to take a short nap. SO CUTE!
As if we didn't do enough in one day, they had a family dance that night. I'd never heard of a family dance before, but Porter wanted to go, so we went. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! Porter was beyond exhausted, but he had so much fun dancing with everyone that he didn't show it. There were babies up through great grandma's and grandpa's there and everyone in between!

They had limbo for all ages & lots of other games for the teenagers to play. What a good idea!

Yellowstone

On our way to our 2nd family reunion, we stopped at Yellowstone. Our destination: Burlington, WY. Population:5 The quickest way to get there was to drive through Yellowstone. We spent the night there, which I've never done before. It was sooooo much fun!

Porter and Grandma with a view of Old Fathful in the background.

Porter loved all of the geysers and hot pots. It was quite a different thing for him to see.
He would point at all of the orange bacteria growing around the hot pots and say "Ewe!" It was pretty funny!
We saw hundreds of buffalo on our drive. Porter was enamored and if we let him, he would have hopped right out of the car and tried to pet the big beasts!
The whole clan. We sure missed both Brandon's and Daniel, though.
